Does it boot into any of these modes? Do you see anything on screen?
Holding Option/alt key at bootup.
Holding SHIFT key at bootup.

We might get clues with verbose mode...
with option/alt 2 disk drives; macintosh HD and recoveru 10.8.2
with shift, it shut down
Hey Vflowers,
once you see the two disk drives, select your boot drive [macintosh HD], or just select the recovery drive to be safe [in the case that it still did not boot after selecting the macintosh HD]. If this does not work, you can try restarting your system holding down the CMD and R. then try to repair your boot Disk.
