Q: playing .ts files with azul

I am on a quest....play my PC tv recordings on an ipad without having to go through a lengthy mp4 file conversion process.  Two options:

1.  Find an ipad compatible player that plays .ts files (my tv tuner recording PC application).  Comment:  Azul and Movie Player claim they can, but cannot play ones created from Hauppauge WinTV using broadcast 1080p signal.  Tried dumbing down the default recording resolution to Better, Good, and Fair but to no avail.  Hanges up on first frame but audio proceeds normally.  Tired of paying for apps that do not do what they claim.

2.  Find a PC tv tuner recording app that records in mp4.  Comment:  No luck thus far.

3.  Find a ipad dongle tuner and record directly to ipad.  Comment:  Appears to be one sold in UK, but is not on the US market.....

Hoping someone out there has walked this path and found a solution..... or one of the above that really works or can be found in US.

Thanks folks....

iPod classic, iOS 5.1.1

"     mp4 gives the best playback thus far....."

It'll always be the best as it can be played back using hardware decoding.

Unfortunately, not even the iPad 2 / 3 can play back 1080i MPEG2 content. (My all tests have been conducted on these two models.)

I'm watching one right now on my iPad 3.

    1920x1080 with ac3 sound.

I don't know how you make it fail but it works fine for me.

Could you make a file you're finding absolutely OK public so that I can have a look at it too? Their format might be different, hence the pretty inferioor playback performance on my iPads.

BTW, have you tried playing back mosritefan's video on your iPad?

mosritefan's footage isn't much different (apart from the additional audio track). Are you sure there isn't much movement in these Community - Celebrity Pharmacology movies? It's mostly at zooming / panning that the constraints of limited decoding power can easily be spotted.

Also, could you upload a very short recording (to, say, DropBox) so that we can also check it out? The problem MAY be with the container mosritefan's recorder records, which can easily be fixed by, for example, remuxing into another, new TS file.

    Hi Folks,

Solved the major objective, i.e. play PC HDTV recordings on iPad classic.

Solution:  Purchased AVerMedia AVerTVHD Duet PCTV tuner (A188) MTVHDDUET PCI-Express x1 Interface,

                        Downloaded/Installed AverMedia 3D Media Center v 1.7.9

Recorded with the iPad format setting (mp4).  Works fine playing in native iPad movie app.

Notes:     -Nothing i could find would play a HDTV(1080i) .ts file on the iPad classic.

-Original Hauppauge tuner and software has no capability to record(or convert on the fly) to apple device formats.

-Supplied software with above AverMedia software only records to iPhone format, hence the download of the newer software which supports the iPad screen size/resolution.

Thanks for all your help folks.....

(Just to repeat my humble request )

Interesting term remuxing....did not hear of it until this problem arose....

    Thanks

Not yours - I asked Johnathan Burger to upload some short videos (preferably with a lot of movement / panning) so that I can find out why he is able to play his videos back flawlessly, while you can't.
