Q: when I back up my iphone i get a message that an error occured (-41) and that if I continue I'll lose everything on my phone. How do I back upmy phone so I can update it?

I am trying to back up my iphone (3GS) so that I can update to 5.1  Unfortunately, I get half way through and an error message pops up and says that if I want to continue with back up I'll lose all the info on my phone. Does anyone know how to fix this or what is going on?
