When I turn on my iMac, I get a light colored screen and beeping about every 5 seconds. Running Snow leopard. How can I get it started?

I tried starting my iMac and all I get is a light colored screen and a beeping sound about every 5 seconds. No sound from the drives. How can I get it to turn on?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.3)

That usually means there is a memory problem. Either no memory or bad memory doesn't pass the power on self test (POST). See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2538

You can try reseating the memory, using 1 card at a time, swapping the slots the cards are in, or getting other working memory to try in your system. If all of those fail, then take it in for service. See http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1423
