Because something is wrong.  One of the following will fix it.

    (0)  If your MacBook is very new, contact your retailer for help

ASAP.  They can help you or determine whether your Mac

          needs repair or perhaps replacement.

    (1) If your MacBook is not very new, restart it and

try again with only one app running at a time

If your iSight problem is not resolved, one of the

following will get your iSight working properly.

    (2) If Apple's http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090

suggestions do not help you, (be certain that you

use the correct "reset" procedure for your model),

yours is most likely a hardware problem that will

        require a professional fix.

Unless you have a current backup, make one now.

Then use the final "Troubleshooting" suggestion:

"... contact Apple or an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service."

    (3) If you want to try one more thing on your own first,

you can use Disk Utility to repair permissions.  Then

download and apply the latest Combo Update for your OS.

(You don't tell us which Mac OS you use, so either

search for the latest Combo for your OS or post back

your OS X info is you need a specific link.  You can find

your Mac's OS version by using  > About This Mac.)

Repair permissions again immediately following the system restart

        that completes the Combo update.

Properly applying the Combo version of updates can sometimes correct software problems, but, if your trouble is caused by a hardware problem, there are no user serviceable parts of iSight.  See your AASP for hardware problems.
