Dropped iPad not working...

Between my six year old son and me - we dropped our iPad this morning. Screen gone black. When I seek to restart screen goes 'grey'. Sometimes when I try this it flashes white for a split second. Help! Am based in E.Africa!

There really is nothing anyone here can do to help with what is almost certainly a hardware issue from damage caused by the fall. You need to contact AppleCare in your area, or take it in to an Apple store or Apple authorized service center.

Odds are you will have to pay for an out of warranty exchange since accidental damage is not covered by the warranty.

You can start looking for contact information here - http://www.apple.com/choose-your-country/

It looks like for most E. African countries, other than iPhones, the primary support is UK support - http://www.apple.com/uk/support/

Thanks Ralph. Looks like I'm in trouble! We have a reseller in Dar es Salaam but no in country tech support.

Bit disappointed with the reaction of the iPad but then they're not designed to be dropped. When I searched online for help the only thing I could find was stories about how people dropped the iPad with no lasting damage!

Not my story unfortunately...

Thanks for your response.

Restart the iPad by holding down on the Wake/Sleep (On/Off) button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut Off. To power up hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.

Reset the iPad. Note: Reset your device only if it is no longer responding and Restart does not work.

1. Begin by pressing the Wake/Sleep (On/Off) and Home buttons at the same time (for about 10-15 seconds). The Wake/Sleep button is the one on the top right corner of the iPad. The Home button is the round one at the bottom center of the iPad's front

2. Continue to hold these buttons until one of two things happen: either the screen will flash and go dark, or a red slider will appear at the top of the screen

3. If the slider appears, you can slide it to the right to turn off the iPad (or tap the cancel button if you change your mind)

4. When the iPad's screen goes dark, the iPad is off

5. Restart the iPad by holding down the Wake/Sleep button until the Apple icon appears. Let go of the buttons and the iPad reset will be complete.

Resetting the iPad shouldn't normally cause you to lose and data or settings.

Search this discussion group for "red screen." It resulted from a drop. Several folks got the iPad to return to normal by slapping the back of the iPad, with increasing vigor. As long as you don't don't do it to excess, you seem to have nothing to lose by trying it. Check out this link:
