Jun 26, 2012 2:51 PM in response to cjhedrickby awncana,Thanks to Apple, i have now started buying CD's on ebay and previewing them on youtube first. Doesn't help me with single songs for now, but if they arent going to help us, they at least aren't going to be getting my full CD purchases anymore!

Jun 27, 2012 6:11 AM in response to cjhedrickby d1schrom,Don't know what to say that hasn't already been said. You can't buy a song based on a 5 second preview. Seems like all the fixes that out there either don't work or are only temporary fixes. I opened itunes last night and checked for updates. to my surprise there was one and I imediately downloaded it. It fixed my problem!! For about 15 or 20 minutes . I wander if it is safe to preview the songs elswhere yet purchase the songs on itunes. If I remember correctly I believe some folks were reporting that they purchased songs on itunes that were not complete.

Jun 27, 2012 6:26 AM in response to cjhedrickby wunbadapple,This fix worked for me and one other. I still want everyone to migrate away from Apple for not caring. I will.
See this thread,

Jun 27, 2012 8:28 AM in response to cjhedrickby Jimmer07,I've made absolutely no changes to my computer and now the previews are magically playing full length again. This is ridiculous.

Jun 27, 2012 8:28 AM in response to wunbadappleby seancgn68,I tried this, and it did not work for me. Seems to be a hit or miss solution.

Jun 27, 2012 8:46 AM in response to cjhedrickby galahax,Just want to post this a matter of record for apple.
Also had this problem, also contacted customer support, also got the run around from the tech!
Tried the fix mentioned earlier in this thread with setting my DNS server, and now it seems to work fine.

Jun 27, 2012 10:32 AM in response to cjhedrickby jascook,People, don't get hung up on an idea that you need to buy your music from iTunes. Sites like Amazon and eMusic have selections that are just as good, and in many cases less expensive. Any MP3 can be uploaded into iTunes and onto your iPod. (And the downloaders for those sites will automatically put them in iTunes for you.) You do not have to buy from iTunes for it to be compatible. For that matter there is other software available that will do the same job organizing your music and will even synch with your iPod -- and you can download it for FREE on the internet. To preview elsewhere because of this problem, and then still buy from iTunes is crazy.
Maybe this DNS solution is an answer, although I have seen more than one person say that it did not work. However, the point is that it should not be up to the user to make iTunes compatible with their computer/internet provider. If Apple wants people using their product, it is up to THEM to make it work right. Otherwise, people can and should go elsewhere.

Jun 27, 2012 11:27 AM in response to cjhedrickby Jimmer07,I do think it is an Internet issue based on my experience.
1. It is intermittent. It comes and goes with no changes to my computer.
2. I can have it not working, make no changes to iTunes (not even close and re-open it), make no changes to my computer and then switch to another Internet provider (via a different wifi connection) and it will play the full preview. Switch back to my other connection and it won't play the full preview.
If anyone can provide it, I would really appreciate an explanation for why the DNS solution would work?

Jun 27, 2012 11:35 AM in response to cjhedrickby jascook,Even if it is an internet issue, it should not be up to us to fix it. I have had FIOS for a couple years and never had a problem with iTunes. All of a sudden, now I do. If for some reason it is FIOS, iTunes needs to make their software properly compatible with it. Not force us to make our internet compatible with iTunes.

Jun 27, 2012 11:42 AM in response to jascookby Jimmer07,I agree that Apple should provide the solution to this so that iTunes works with all Internet connections.

Jun 27, 2012 12:17 PM in response to Jimmer07by gcmcl,For whatever it's worth, a renewal of IP address under both IPv4 and IPv6 settings of my router has resolved the problem. For now. This is just a hunch, but somewhere along the line, something isn't playing nice with IPv6.

Jun 27, 2012 7:03 PM in response to wunbadappleby slejhamer,@ wunbadapple:
THANK YOU!
When my wife said her iMac was having the same trouble, I knew it wasn't a Windows issue! The problem had to be somewhere between my FIOS router and Apple's servers ...
I set the router to use Google DNS (primary) and OpenDNS (secondary) and I can listen to the full previews once again - both on my Windows machine and my wife's Mac! Whoo hoo! Haven't tested a download yet (problems when downloading a full album or more than one song at a time) but fingers are crossed this has solved the problem.
If anyone's on FIOS, here are the instructions I followed:

Jun 27, 2012 8:10 PM in response to slejhamerby wunbadapple,For those who have been helped, you are welcome. If it hasn't all I can say is abandon Apple. I love the fact that a Google DNS server seems to fix the issue in many cases. Apple has gotten waaaasy too big for its britches. Pride goeth before the fall Mr. Cook. Reread King Lear on your Kindle. After cleaning out the last of my credits on iTunes I will never buy another Apple product or service. Not because there was an issue, but because of the cavalier dismissive attitude of everyone associated with Apple that I spoke with. I hope everyone else does the same (replace that iMac slejhamer). There are many equal and sometimes better alternatives.

All that proves is that Google DNS servers work and your ISP's don't. That's hardly Apple's fault.
