Jul 20, 2012 6:24 PM in response to cjhedrickby Ayep,Well... I thought it'd been solved by resetting the DNS, but nope. Preview just cut off after about 9 seconds. Guess I'll have to wait to buy anything since I can't preview it, or get it from Amazon.

Jul 21, 2012 1:48 PM in response to cjhedrickby carocuth,I'm having a REALLY fine time with iTunes...now, I get a nice blank white page on the main page or main music page...if I call up an album...NOTHING happens, no picture, no previews, no burps, farts or squeeks. Nothing. Nothing at all.

Jul 23, 2012 9:15 PM in response to cjhedrickby w3ath3rfr3ak,H i am new to Itunes but I just had this problem. However I may have the solution. It worked for me.
Try buying the songs again. I know I sound crazy but if yours works like mine did it will tell you that you have already purchased the song and it will ask you to redownload it. I watched the redownload like a hawk and now my song plays fully. Hoped this helps. Peace. w3ath3rfr3ak.

Jul 24, 2012 10:13 AM in response to cjhedrickby stercesderised,Been having this problem (as well as download issues) for a couple of months now.
I've tried:
Flushing DNS, releasing/renewing IP, assigning IPv4 8.8.8.8
Delete and Reinstalling iTunes, Quicktime, and any other apple software
Removing and re-importing library (for download issue)
Turning off anti-virus, adding itunes and itunes helper to trusted apps in anti-virus
None of these things worked for me.
I am using Windows Vista 32 bit.
After doing some (extensive) research, and looking in my network settings in network manager, I realized there are two internet protocols: IPv4 and IPv6. I did some more research and found that IPv4 addresses are not compatible with IPv6. Going on a whim, I unchecked the IPv6 protocol, forced DNS primary for IPv4 prootocol to the 8.8.8.8 (because this wouldn't hurt anything but probably unnecessary), hit ok and closed those windows, re-launched iTunes and tried again.
This worked.I doubt I am unique in this fix. If you are having this issue, try removing connection usage on IPv6. I have found no issues with browsing the internet with this unchecked, but admittedly with IPv4 running out of addresses this is a temporary fix.
------------------------------------------------
TO APPLE: PLEASE RESEARCH WHETHER YOU ARE COMPATIBLE WITH IPv6 PROTOCOL!! WITH THE ENTIRE WORLD MOVING TO IPv6 DUE TO IP ADDYS RUNNING OUT ON IPv4 (north america anticipated to run out by June 2013, and Asia already out) THIS PROBLEM WILL BECOME MORE OF AN ISSUE!!!!
I am not sure when IPv6 was added to my network settings, but I do not recall it being in there on my original windows install (I recently had a HD hardware failure and just reinstalled windows, and updated). I have had 0 issues with iTunes since I've made this change so I'm almost 100% sure it's a IPv6 compatibility issue on Apple's side. I'm not entirely sure how this protocol works, but clearly part of the issue is related to IPv6...

Jul 24, 2012 10:46 AM in response to stercesderisedby stercesderised,Quick follow on that I tested downloading songs (The Who's "Who's Next" album) and still found 3 songs did not download properly. The songs cut early and skipped to the next song.
However, that being said, this is an improvement over the last 7-8 album purchases I had made where only the first song downloaded correctly, and then I had to go and delete all of the other songs and download one at a time.
I still had to redownload the 3 songs via the cloud to my computer, and even then had to re-download one of them a third time, just to get the entire album downloaded fully.
I am really dissapointed/disgusted with Apple.
Is there a case for class action on these significant issues, obviously encountered by a large number of the Apple customer population?
You can't push a market to use your product/device and then not provide customer service and solutions to support those products when they aren't working, though obviously Apple seems to think so....

Jul 24, 2012 1:39 PM in response to stercesderisedby Cheffalo,I'm in. Apple just don't acknowledge the problem and I haven't been able to listen to much of the music I've bought at iTunes for a mighty long time now. I'm fed up with this!
I had a similar idea a while ago but that post got deleted as I wasn't being polite, they said. Pathetic.
I tried the "buy again" method mentioned above, leading to iTunes trying to charge me a second time for the music I already bought years ago.

First off, there is no guarantee that Apple will ever read this, so if you feel a need to communicate with them you need to do so at http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html.
I agree that there are probably still some software compatibility issues with IPv6, but there are even more such problems on the internet. Less than 50% world-wide. Only South Korea seems to be on top of it http://ipv6-test.com/stats/. Seems we all have a long way to go.

Jul 25, 2012 7:15 AM in response to MadMacs0by slejhamer,Another update since my last post.
Since the DNS change I have not had any trouble with itunes previews.
Also, no trouble when downloading individual songs one at a time.
HOWEVER, when downloading a full album, 5 out of 12 songs did not download correctly - they simply cut off at random points in the songs.
So, the DNS change does not seem to fix all the problems.
I may try the IPv6 tweak, but really feel I shouldn't need to ...

Jul 25, 2012 8:18 AM in response to slejhamerby stercesderised,To clarify, the IPv6 fix looks to only resolve the preview issue, though it did improve the song downloading issue for me.
Slejhammer....I am curious, if you go to your network manager:
(start>>>>control pannel>>>>network and sharing center>>>>"manage network connection"), then right-right click "Local Area Network"
Do you see two Internet Protocol Versions listed? Are they both checked?
If you assigned a primary DNS, it had to be with IPv4 as it takes the classic x.x.x.x format. The IPv6 format is hexidecimal in nature (example =
2001:0db8:85a3:0042:0000:8a2e:0370:7334). -
Jul 25, 2012 5:33 PM in response to stercesderisedby slejhamer,@ stercesderised:
Yes, both are checked, and yes it was under IPv4 where I set the DNS. So, if you've got IPv6 unchecked and are still having download troubles, then it seems the preview problem is solely related to DNS under IPv4, while the downloading issue may or may not be related.
I noticed as I re-downloaded the songs which had been truncated that they took quite a bit longer than usual to download. I wonder if there's some built-in time-out function in the iTunes program, or at Apple's servers. Either way, it's a frustration!
A possible fix would be for the program to not attempt to d/l more than one track at a time ... or to make it an option for those having difficulties.

Jul 25, 2012 6:06 PM in response to slejhamerby intuition84,On the screen that displays the download progress there is a checkbox that says "Allow simultaneous downloads". Uncheck it, and only one song will download at one time. However, when I was having download errors, this option really didn't help.
-
Jul 25, 2012 6:35 PM in response to intuition84by slejhamer,Thanks intuition84. I guess I'll have to wait until I download another song to access that screen. Why the heck isn't this in the Preferences window? Other download-related items are there. Doesn't make much sense.

Jul 26, 2012 10:57 AM in response to slejhamerby Teufelhund323,The DNS flush and changing the DNS aren't permanent soultions. They work for a little while, and then the problems creep back in. At what point does Apple actually address and fix the issue?
