Mac OS X Lion v10.7.4: How to erase and install

I have a software problem with the recent upgrade Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4

I have backed up everything and want to erase everything on the hard drive and reinstall … however when I try to start up from the Mac OS X Install DVD by restarting with it in the optical drive, whilst holding the "C" key as the computer starts up … it just starts up as normal from the HD and thus cannot erase it?!!

Can you offer any words of wisdom at all please?

10.7 doesn't have a DVD it has a recovery partition. You start up holding the R key to access the recovery partition.

Hi frederic1943,

Thank you for your advice, it all worked great however ... i thought that a complete erase and reinstall would remove the problem causing my colour wheel to turn on excessivley (especially i have noticed in OUTLOOK ever half sentence or so!!)

Do you have any idea why this may be happening and what I can do to stop it please?

While we all have MacBooks in this forum most of us don’t run Lion. There's a Lion Support Community where everybody has Lion. You should also post this question there to increase your chances of getting an answer. https://discussions.apple.com/community/mac_os/mac_os_x_v10.7_lion

And in the MacBook Pro forum https://discussions.apple.com/community/notebooks/macbook_pro
