How can i turn my new iPad into a wifi hotspot?

I have bought the new iPad, or the iPad 3, as many call it. My question is that since Apple has claimed that the wifi + 4g model is capable of becoming a wifi hotspot, i would like to know that how can i activate this option in the settings. A swift response would be very much appreciated.

iPad 2, iOS 5.1

Can you see a "Personal Hotspot" item in Settings? (Should be the third in the list from the top, on the left, just below Wi-Fi and above Notifications.)

If you don't, then, your carrier doesn't have negotiated this subject with Apple and, therefore, there's no hotspot for you. Nevertheless, try contacting your carrier - this can be fixed with a simple, carrier-specific, carrier-provided file you need to import to iTunes.

I'm not sure if Vodaphone supports Hotspot. However, if it isn't showing up in settings right away, you may need to go to a different location in settings to get it configured.

First, make sure you have this option enabled through your carrier. If it isn't, your iPad won't even give you the option. Once you confirm that, go to Settings > General > Network > Personal Hotspot. Here it will give you the option to turn on Personal Hotspot and show you the password to access it via Wi-Fi. You can change that password if you wish.

After you have turned it on the first time, it will show as the third item down in the main settings menu and can be turned on and off there.

You do not need to configure VPN for Hotspot. However, if you choose to, those options are also under the network menu.

Hope that helps and good luck!

Had the same issue and enquired that vodafone or any service provider in india does not specifically have any service for hotspots. It's just with th iPad 3 that we in india have an issue apparently. With other previous devices and with the iPhone 4s there is an option within the device itself which lets you create a personal hotspot. In ipad3 this happens only if the service provider has this special service. And as usual in India ......well none of the service providers have that service yet. Cause I guess there are very few who probably would ask for it.

My solution.

I activated 3G on the sim card that I was using on my 4s and made the phone as the hotspot, which I needed for my MBP retina 15" (2.6 ghz). ........that was just to make you jealous. BUT THEN. The extra bit that I spent on the new iPad wifi + cellular, now seems to be a waste. Cause a scenario where I am only carrying my iPad and not my phone is quite unlikely. FEEL LIKE A FOOL. ........ APPLE ARE YOU LISTENING. KINDA POINTLESS FOR THE NEW IPAD TO NOT HAVE THE HOTSPOT FEATURE BUILT INTO IT AS IN CASE OF 4S. I HOPE THE SAME MISTAKE AIN'T REPEATED IN 5.

WOULD APPRECIATE A RESPONSE FROM APPLE.

In which case its pretty likely that it would be same in the new 5. Now if I am at a place where there is no wifi ( which happens a lot in India) with my new 5 (likely to go for it as it arrives in India), new iPad ( the iPad 3) and the new MBP retina ( which of course does not have a sim slot.) and if I have to download a file from my mail and work on it on my MBP, ........how would I do it? Never tried sending dwg files via Bluetooth. Don't think that happens. Will have to check.

WouLd appreciate if you can throw some light.

If you save a file into an app on your iPhone or iPad and want to transfer it to your computer then (if the app that you've downloaded it into supports it) you might be able to copy it over via file sharing when connected to your computer's iTunes.

Bluetooth on iOS devices is mainly for use with headphones and keyboards and not for transferring content (supported profiles) - there are some apps (possibly mainly photo realted) that can copy content between the same app on iOS devices via bluetooth, not sure if any work to computers.
