iPhone 3GS Continuous Sync Problem

I have an iPhone 3GS. When I sync my iPhone 3GS to iTunes it continually stalls at Step 6 of 6.

This occurs whether I am tethered or over wi-fi. My podcasts and apps are copied onto my iPhone - but I observe the spinning circle in iTunes as if it is looking for one more file.

I am using the iTunes on my Mac

Does anyone have suggestion on what is causing this? Any solutions?
