I have had my iPod since 2009 and it has worked fine. I was using it, and when I put it to sleep it wouldn't turn on. I tried holding the power button and the home button, but it doesn't work. I also tried to charge it, but the iPod just gets extremely hot and doesn't turn on. I also tried the steps in this article (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808) but it doesn't work. Is there anything else that I can do?

If I don't have a warranty on my iPod how much will it cost to get it fixed? Would it be a better idea to just by a new iPod? Also, I recently bought an album on iTunes but haven't synced it to my computer yet. Can I get those songs back?
The appointment at the Genius Bar is free except for your time. Apple does not fix your iPod. They will exchange it for a refurbished one for this price.
