HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4165B: tech spec. and setting?

Hello, a little help please,... since searching won't find anything relevant i figure its time to make a new thread...

Is there any link on Apple knowledge base (Apple kb search: tried "LGE 3pty", "LG Electronics 3pty", etc... nada) or any LG site out there with complete specification of this SuperDrive, System Profiler doesn't give complete clue (below). i especially would like to know 2 things:

1. what's the drive speed (is it really 16x?)
2. why it won't write DVD-R DL while it writes DVD+R DL (according to System Profiler)

--------------------------------------------------------
HL-DT-ST DVD-RW GWA-4165B:

Firmware Revision: C006
Interconnect: ATAPI
Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported)
Cache: 2048 KB
Reads DVD: Yes
CD-Write: -R, -RW
DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL
Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, CD-Raw, DVD-DAO
Media: No
--------------------------------------------------------

And is there any kind of global system setting (is it in Toast?) to set the burning speed, instead of software dependent setting? there's no such setting in iDVD, so it seems pretty risky if i have a high speed DVD media to burn there (do it a lot) while i have vague idea what the drive speed is, and what burn speed is going.

I thought better documentation would certainly exist if 2 main pat of MacOSX is involved here (iMovie & SuperDrive), i hope i'm right...

Information on original LG drives can be found @ http://www.lge.com/index.do

Your drive is an Apple specific drive (Apple firmware) - Apple SuperDrives do not support -R DL neither DVD RAM; only +R DL.
