no device recognised in my itunes

somebody please help. The techies at the Apple store perth cant help and I am soooooo stuck.

My itunes will not recognise any device. I have tried differnt cables and docks and in different usb ports.

I have uninstalled and re installed the current itunes for Windows 7 (10.6.1.7) to no avail and now I have gone and installed the lower version (just incase) and STILL to no avail. My devices do charge (ipohne 4, iphone 3, ipod nano and ipod classic) but will not get rercognised by itunes.

Please, please. If someone can offer any advice I would be so greatful!! I have reset, again and again, updated windows 7, I have run Windows 7 upgrade advison and its all fine. I know, I know, I need a Mac. (if i could actually launch my business and have my phone back I might be able to afford a Mac!)

THANKS TO THE ABOVE!!! IT FIXED my DELL / 64bit Win 7 Problem! Here's a MORE DETAILED SUMMARY of the above to hopefully make things more clear:

---------------------

OK-
this is a re-written compilation of fixes from various folks (@cdnfs, @codyc3)
which hopefully will be easy to fix your iPhone sync step-by-step.

My new DELL P55 / Win 7 FINALLY recognizes my iPhone and SYNCS!

I will try to summarize the steps:

1) DOWNLOAD (don't run directly) iTunes64Setup.exe from iTunes website.
Make sure you know where you saved this file.
Double click it, and install iTunes.
Install latest iTunes (assuming 64-bit)

2) Plug in iPhone.
Make sure computer recognizes the iPhone.
In Win7, go to Device Manager (under Control panel / Hardware), and go to the "Portable Devices" section. Apple iPhone should be listed. We will come back to this step later.

3) Download Universal Extractor from this site:
http://www.filehippo.com/downloaduniversalextractor/ (or search for this file. I tried using Less MSIables, but didn't work)

4) Install Universal extractor program and run program.

5) Select iTunesSetup.exe file to extract, and choose a Destination Directory.
Click ok, and choose "Not an installshield install", and it should extract this file.

6) Within this folder, find "AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi".

7) Go back to Universal Extractor program, and now extract AppleMobileDeviceSupport64.msi to a destination directory of your choice.

8) Click ok, and Choose MSI Administrative Installer method, then click OK.

9) A new FOLDER called "AppleMobile DeviceSupport64" should be created.
Within this, goto Common Files/Apple/Mobile Device Support/Drivers
to find files called "usbaapl64.inf" as well as 3 other files.
REMEMBER THIS LOCATION.

10) Go BACK to STEP #2 and within the Device Manager, RIGHT CLICK on Apple iPhone and select "Update Software Driver".

11) Choose Browse My Computer for driver Software.

12) Browse to the "Drivers" folder in step #9 where usbaapl64.inf is located and choose this folder.

VOILA! Your iPhone drivers are now CORRECTLY INSTALLED!!!!!!!

HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEONE as it FINALLY FIXED THE PROBLEM!!!!
