iTunes was not properly installed if you wish to import or burn cds...
I started getting this message 2-3 weeks ago: "itunes was not properly installed if you wish to import or burn cds you need to reinstall itunes". It may have started right after I upgraded to a newer version of iTunes. I don't sync that often, so I can't say for sure. But, at the same time that I got the message, iTunes started failing to recognize my iPod when it was connected. I have not seen this aspect described in any of the threads (all archived) that turned up when I searched for this problem.
The first time I got the message, I was hoping it would disappear after restarting my PC, but that was not the case. I then uninstalled and reinstalled iTunes, with no change in the behavior. My searches turned up threads that seem to indicate this is related to GEAR drivers (https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2676848?threadID=2676848&tstart=0). I followed links in that thread that led me to GEAR support, which claimed this was caused by some interference from a third party driver, suggesting that I rename that driver and reboot. However, the driver they were accusing does not exist on my machine.
I'm stuck, unable to sync my iPod (assuming the two symptoms are connected). Since the most recent discussion of this is 2+ years old, I was hoping there might be some new information and guidance. Thanks!
