iTunes was not properly installed if you wish to import or burn cds...

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?

In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:

... and click "Next".

When you get through to the final screen:

... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here.

My wife's Dell PC had the same error message saying "iTunes was not properly installled". I had downloaded the latest iTunes version, no change. Everything works in iTunes, but she couldn't upload a CD

When I run the above diagnostic, no optical drive shows up at all...apparently the driver is corrupted. I'm doing some digging now to see if it's a driver or a hardware problem.

So, people, if you get this message, it's (a little bit) misleading...iTunes is probably OK, but your CD/DVD drive is shot!

Hello I have the exact same problem.

I have run the diagnostics only for the CD/DVD drive and it seems to me the issue is that iTunes now does not recognise the Cd drive (when asked to select an optical drive from the drop-down menu there are no options listed). This is what my diagnostics say:

That looks to be the problem.

With that one, I'd start with solution 3 from the following document:

Windows Vista ...I had the same problem, tried some of the suggestions, they were very involved and confusing. So here is what I did. I went to the control panel, and went to Programs, remove programs. when I selected iTunes I got the option to un-install or Repair. I clicked on REPAIR and waited for it to repair it. I re-booted and IT WAS ALL BACK TO NORMAL! TAAA DAAAA! I am burning a CD I just installed...

I have the same issue, "CD Driver Not Available." iTunes has never worked on my Windows 7_64 Dell T-3600 workstation. Read the document mentioned above and my system does not have "Gear" drivers installed. I have multiple DVD-RW drives, the one that came with the Dell T-3600 and an External Plextor DVD-RW, all drives work fine with the system and other software packages.

Ideas?

Gunnerjoe you got it right! Out of all these technical ways to fix this problem, yours was fast, easy, made sense and oh yeah it worked. K I S S= keep it simple stupid. Thankyou so much. I was going nuts with media players for over a month and a half. So everybody up there ^^^^^ and over on the other posts trying to figure this out, do what Joe said. Go to you add/remove programs click on itunes and click repair instead of delete. It takes a little bit before it starts doing anything but it works! 🙂
