if iphone 4s get hot it will give you a message -iphone needs to cool down- but if it get too hot will it shut down by itself-automatic-

Sorry, but the iPhone has no internal temp sensor. If it gets too hot for any reason it will just fry. If you notice its too hot whle charging, stop charging and stop any apps that are running. If its in your pocket or a holster, take it out and let it cool. You didnt say when it overheats, but if it does it while charging I"d take it back to a Apple store and have it checked out.

Phone operating temperature

If the interior temperature of iPhone exceeds normal operating temperatures, you may experience the following as it attempts to regulate its temperature:

• iPhone stops charging.
• The screen dims.
• The cellular signal is weak.
• A temperature warning screen appears.

  Important: You can't use iPhone while the temperature warning screen is displayed, except to make an emergency call. If iPhone can’t regulate its internal temperature, it goes into deep sleep mode until it cools. You can't make an emergency call when iPhone is in this mode. Move iPhone to a cooler location and wait a few minutes before trying to use iPhone again.
