Quota limit reached when checking email...what does this mean?

I'm getting a similar message on my iPhone 4S, iPad 2 and iMac when I am checking email.

Can someone help me figure out what this means and how to fix it?

iPad 2, iOS 5.0.1

A mail quota is the amount of space reserved on the server to house your email messages. If you don't delete messages from your mail server, your mailbox may have reached the storage limit set by your Internet Service Provider.

On your iMac,

  1. Open Mail. Click the Mail menu and select Preferences.
  2. Highlight each mail account and click the Edit button.
  3. Click the Advanced Options tab and check the Remove copy from server after retrieving a message option and select the desired time from the drop-down menu. There is also a "remove now" button you can use.
  4. Click OK and close the Mail Preferences window.

My menu system is a little different than the one you posted however I was able to navigate myself around based up on this. Maybe its because I'm fully updated on Lion.

Unfortunatly iCloud and Gmail does not have this "Revove copy from server after retrieving a message". I only have this option for my Comcast POP email. I guess this is option is for POP email and not IMAP email.
