Hearing live audio during a jam session

My band mates and I tried to use the jam session feature and found a big hole that i hope was an oversight on our part. With 3 iPads, all with GarageBand, all in the same jam session, we could not hear each others live audio through our respective headphones while recording. We can hear it after we record, but not during. Therefore any live interaction on timing and improvisation is lost, making this feature unusable for us. Is there a way to hear use while recording?

I've been attempting the same thing with students in my Music Technology class - several groups of iPad running Jam Session but only being able to hear from the built-in speaker - almost impossible to hear bass and some drum parts. I was hoping that the Jam Session feature would also include audio output via Wifi so that each user could hear each band mate in their headphones.

I think a work around for this would be to have the main iPad that initiates the session also be connected to a set of amplified speakers. This is not the ideal case, where everyone would have thier own seperate master track, but fills this hole. I really wish Apple would fix this, it seems like a big gap that makes the entire feature worthless. If anyone has a better workaround, then please share it.

Our band purchased a jamhub greenroom and it works great. More info at jamhub.com
