Photostream constantly turning itself off

Is it me, or is anyone else noticing this? I have Photostream turned off, but every so often, I notice that my photos are not downloading from the cloud. When I check Photostream in the settings, it is turned off. I am not turning it off, and when this happens, I am turning it back on. However, after a few days to weeks, it might randomly shut off again. Is this a known glitch? Is anyone else seeing/experiencing this?

My workflow is nothing out of the ordinary. Basically, I open Aperture, import images the traditional way off of my camera and the rest show up, imported via Photostream. I do my edits and add metadata, then quit. Sometimes I might run a vault backup. Since the issue I'm experiencing doesn't happen every time I use the app, I can't say I do anything differently when the issue occurs. All I can say is that all of a sudden, Photostream is shut off again and I need to activate it in order for it to start working again. I do not shut it off, so this is happening on its own, or via something behind the scenes.

The issue now is that turning it back on is not working either. I get the spinning beach ball that spins infinitely. I need to force quit the application, and when I do, Aperture is listed in red and is not responding. So, basically I can't even activate Photostream in Aperture at this point.

I have the same problem: photostream turns itself off in Aperture, seemingly at random, without notifcation, about once every two weeks but not on any regular basis. It remains on in my iPhone.

The problem did not get fixed in the most recent AP update.

It's a nuisance rather than a disaster, but it makes keeping photostream up to date a labor intensive rather than a background activity.

Me too! I have photostream turned on in iPhoto and can see all of my photos. All seems to work OK and pictures from my Iphone appear very quickly (although for some reason 1 photo on my phone never transferred?).

I usually shut iPhoto down when I have finished using it and usually shut my MAC (using Lion) down when I have finished using it. More often than not the next time I use my MAC and go to iPhoto I have to restrat photostream - most annoying!

Macorin, same problem here, however I spotted a log entry in the Console that might shed some light there:

... Aperture: FAILURE: Job com.apple.photostream-agent is not loaded in launchd

I searched the Console for Aperture right after getting the same "Do you want to turn on Photo Stream" error. Well, not error, but it is now a sign of an error somewhere there.

I wonder if we all have the same entry in the Console.

Peace

I am having the same issue. It is very annoying.

I see some people are having the issue in iPhoto as well. There is a thread about it here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3454674?start=60&tstart=0

There doesn't seem to be one solution for all and I am not sure if any of these will work with Aperture.

It seems like a bug that needs to be fixed somewhere.

Yes, it could be a bug, however, I recently downloaded and installed the latest release of Aperture, v. 3.3 and it is still happening. I'm almost tempted to just leave Photo Stream off at this point until this gets sorted out by Apple. I wonder how this is going to affect shared Photo Streams when that feature is released? That could either fix things, or add a whole new level of complexity to the current problem.

How come Apple can't get this basic feature of a signature new feature like Photo Stream working right. Every time I launch Aperture, it has forgotten my Photo Stream info and gives me the welcome screen asking me to enable it again. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Give me a break. There have been multiple point-version updates to Aperture since Photo Stream was released and they still can't fix this.

Same problem over here and it was annoying the **** out of me… but after a restart Little Snitch asked me permission to access 'PhotoStreamAgent'. Aha… I thought and gave it permission to allow any connection with this server. Opened Aperture… and boom! the stream was turned on again!

So a possible solution could be to not block the 'PhotoStreamAgent' in any kind of way with Little Snitch or similar tools.
