Q: home button is sticking and sometimes needs to be pressed a few times to work, why?

Dirt/debris interferring with the button (not entirely certain that is possible).  Button/sensor is becoming worn with use.

Simple failure.

Does it really matter?  Just take it to Apple, if it's still under warranty they will replace it.
