apple tv audio without toslink

Hi, people,

I bought an Apple TV last week. I've got problem with audio.

My TV is Sharp Aquos LC 37BV8E (not so recent, but not so old): I have an HDMI port that, I think, doesn't accept audio signal.

I tell so beacuse if I linked my MacBook Pro to TV, I had to use the RCA cable associated to this HDMI port to have audio from Computer to TV.

The HDMI cable brings only video, not audio, with Apple TV too.

Now: I cannot use Optical audio Toslink because TV doesn't have this kind of port.

How can I have audio on TV?

Does some convertitor exist on market? Special cable?

Welcome to the Apple community.

It would be very unusual indeed if your TVs HDMI port did not accept audio. What I feel has happened is that your computer is unable to output audio over its connection which you have adapted to fit the HDMI cable.

I think it most likely that you are assuming that your TV doesn't support audio over HDMI when in fact it most likely does.

Thank you for your answear.

Your words are right: my TV doesn't support audio over HDMI. I already assumed it some years ago, using my macbookpro like I wrote in my first post. For the same reason I think AppleTV cannot send audio only through HDMI.

This is clear... This was already clear.

Can/Does exist a special/recent/modern HDMI cable sending Audio better than my HDMI one (doing a little miracle)?

Does a convertitor exist to link Apple Tv Toslink and my TV rca?

You can use a DAC (Example Only - Not a recommendation or suggestion that this is suitable in your circumstances) to convert optical to analogue, but I think you are wrong about your TV not supporting audio over HDMI.

Maybe I'm wrong. I don't discart this possibility. I'll be happy to be wrong...

Near the TV, where we have the HDMI port (Position 5) we find the little RCA entry for audio. This is why I think HDMI doesn't support audio it-self on this TV.

Normally does every HDMI cable transmit audio to TV or do we buy a particular HDMI cable?

I will see once again TV settings about audio.

I take note about DAC.

The HDMI standard includes audio. There are only two types of HDMI cable, a standard one and a high-speed one. You will only need the high-speed one, if you have the Apple TV three.

Yesterday I surfed once again through TV setting and I founded how to activate audio on Hdmi: now it works!

It was little bit hidden... anyway: THANK YOU
