iTunes slowing my pc down

I have a brand new Toshiba L750D laptop with an A8 AMD processor running Windows 7 64 bit. I have been setting it up over a number of nights and everything had been working fine until I installed itunes 64 bit. After I installed it, the whole computer slowed right down, so much so that it is impossible to use. It takes minutes to open anything if it opens at all. I have noticed that if I switched my network off, the laptop would run ok, but when I switched it back on to connect to the internet, it would slow right down again. Shutting down is also a problem as I seem to have to power off to switch it off, it is too slow to get to the shut down button if you can get to it at all.

I have tried switching bonjour and the other apple products that are in the startup services off and the laptop then seems to work ok. The problem then is that itunes wont run as I get a message saying it is not installed properly. Would anybody be able to help me so I can get my new laptop working properly with itunes installed? I'm really disappointed with it yet I should be excited that I have a new computer. Thanks

Close your iTunes,

Go to command Prompt -

(Win 7/Vista) - START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".

(Win XP SP2 n above) - START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>Command Prompt

In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in

netsh winsock reset

Hit "ENTER" key

Restart your computer.

If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.

Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.

If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

Hi, thanks for the help. I tried the winsock reset and that didn't work. I then looked at the article but don't see any software other than microsoft. After I run the Autoruns software and goto the Winsock Providers tab, all there is is WindlowsLive Local NSP and Windows Live NSP. The publisher is Micosoft Corp.

I have gone to Windows update and checked for updates. There were some to install but this didn't change anything. This is a brand new computer so I haven't installed much on it yet. A couple of things I have installed are Sonos Controller and ZoneAlarm Internet Security Suite, (I removed the Nortons version that came with the computer).

I have reinstalled itunes 64 bit and the computer slows down so much you can't use it. I uninstalled it and then it works ok. Another thing I have noticed is that when iTunes is installed, if I switch off my home network before switching the laptop on, it runs ok, but as soon as I switch the network on, that is when it slows down to a stop. Could the problem be something with iTunes connecting to the internet?

I have uninstalled ZoneAlarm and then reinstalled iTunes and it seems to work ok now and doesn't slow down the laptop. Perhaps it was the issue with iTunes trying to access the internet and ZA stopping this? Would you happen to know what settings I would need to allow iTunes access through the ZA firewall or should I try another virus program like Nortons instead? Would I even have the same problem with whatever virus checker I get?

Sorry, I have not used ZoneAlarm and their knowledgebase support does not provide any info on firewall configuration.

May be you can consider using AVG Antivirus Free Edition which i have been using it for years without any issues. You can download from here:

Windows 7 does come with its own firewall by default and therefore you don't need another firewall to cause conflicts.

Well, something seems to have worked. I uninstalled iTunes and ZoneAlarm. Reinstalled iTunes and everything worked fine. Then I reinstalled ZoneAlarm and everything still seems to be working fine. Well, for the past hour anyway! I hope this may have resolved the issues I was having. I'll keep fingers crossed and hopefully it will continue to be all good. Thanks heaps for your help :-)
