My HP printer won't print in color on my iMac 10.6.8

I am not trying to be funny, but are you sure your color ink cartridge is OK?
To my knowledge, there is no software setting to make a printer only print in black.
You might try deleting the printer, restarting, and then adding it back in.

i just fixed mine, now I have maverick 10.9. what happened a tech did my printer setting ?? it wouldn't print in color although the printer worked fine on HP PC what I did I took a usb mouse not the apple mouse went to system pref, clicked on the printer logo and clik on the - sign : bottom left and delete it.
do not unplug your printer usb ext.. then back to system pref click on + sign add, turn printer on. that is what i did, hope it can work for you.
