Q: airport extreme and usb hard drive over internet

I can't seem to access my hard drive connected to my Airport Extreme. I have my Airport set up to connect through ethernet to my wifi/modem. I can see and access my hard drive over my network but I can't type the ip address and connect from outside my network. How do i accomplish this?
