Q: My isight lens has 3 white specks on it?

I tried to take a picture on photobooth, but the quality of my webcam is horrible.  Super blurry.  I looked at the lens and it has 3 small white specks in the center that I cannot get rid of.  I tried to clean it off, but I'm starting to think it's part of the camera.  I'm just really confused.  Has anyone had this problem or know how to fix it?

(My headphone plug-in stopped working too, if that makes a difference).

Also, I have been using this macbook for a few years.

MacBook, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

None of my Apple webcams has ever shown any of the symptoms you describe.

Because you can see defects that you have been unable to clean, yours sounds to me like a hardware problem. If you have access to a Mac-compatible external camera, you try that.  If the external cam works properly, your iSight almost certainly has a hardware problem.

There are no user serviceable parts of iSight.  For this hardware help, contact an Apple-Authorized Service Provider for service.  Your AASP can also determine whether your headphone connection is hardware problem and repair it if necessary.

I could not find that you posted a location.  If you don't have a local AASP, you can find one from Apple's contact info: http://support.apple.com/kb/HE57

Unless you have a current backup of your important files, make one before relinquishing your Mac for service.  You may need to leave your Mac with the AASP for service, so plan for that possibility.

If the repair cost is too high, you might want to consider trading Macs or using an external UVC (USB) cam like one of those described here: http://www.mac-compatible-web-cam.com/
