Cannot view Sony Handycam movies using Quicktime Why?

I have to lauch the latest software for Quicktime. I have purchased a Sony Hanycam Model DSR-SR68. What codes or mssing that I need reinstalled get that peice of equipment upload movies to Macbook Pro?

Mac Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.4)

That camera records standard definition in MPEG-2 format. iMovie should be able to convert it to QuickTime formats.
