Is your AirPort Express Base Station a 802.11n or 802.11g model? This will matter as to what method you should use to extend the Time Capsule's (TC) wireless network with a wireless connection between routers.

    Hi there,

Thanks for replying , Im not good on the tech side! Where do I find out if it's n or g? The time capsule is 1TB, I think it is n.

Just thinking I had noticed on the time capsule, under one of the settings in airport utility that it had 5ghz, so I clicked on that box, so that I would get faster response on my iPad- has that maybe caused the error?  I'll check that put when I get home,

    Thanks

    Linda

Where do I find out if it's n or g?

The "g" version has a model number of: A1084; the "n" version is: A1264. You'll find this printed on the label on one of its sides.

The time capsule is 1TB, I think it is n.

Yes, all Time Capsule models support "n."

    Hi again,

Checked the time capsule but there isn't a sticker saying the model number.  Only serial number on the bottom?

Above is the log from Airport Utility , ive just tried to connect my airport express again to my time capsule, but still getting no joy.

ive noticed that time capsule is looking for me to update firmware, but when i click on software update - nothing appears to update the time capsule.. Ive tried to do this direct from apple downloads, but not letting me update?

Sorry, I was referring to the AirPort Express, not the Time Capsule.

Ok, if you are saying that the AirPort Express is a "n" model, then the correct procedure to extend the Time Capsule with the Express would be covered in the following Apple Support article.
