We have a pretty hetergenous network and I am looking to add icons to os x's network computer database for differing OS's. Right now everything that is not mac has the BSOD icon. That is not visually helpful. I have found the icons. I have also found, in a dump I made of Launch Services, that the generic BSOD icon is tied to the type ID of 8848, and that it is also tied to the tags (Windows, Windows2000, WindowsXP, Windows2003, WindowsVista, Windows2008) , and the generic apple server icon is tied to a type 8884. It is tied to the tag (Macintosh). There is also all the various mac icons listed as well.
type id: 8848
flags: exported active core apple-internal trusted
conforms to: public.computer
tags: Windows, Windows2000, WindowsXP, Windows2003, WindowsVista, Windows2008
I can easily replace the icon, but then every system outside of Apple, no matter the OS will show that icon. Does anyone know how to, or have added, a type ID for a different system?
