How are you ejecting the iPod from the PC? Are you using one of the methods outlined in this Appled supported document?

The only way I'm able to disconnect is to reboot. I disconnect as soon as the "do not disconnect message disappears. No other suggested method of disconnecting works.
Again, the problem is regardless of how long I wait after it syncs, the error messages continues to flash, even though iTunes says sync has successfully completed.
Do you have any other USB devices connected at this time (minus the keyboard and mouse)? Do you have any software running in the background on your system such as Antivirus or security software?

A monitor is connected and Symantec Endpoint Protection is running.
Have you tried temporarily disabling the Symantec Protection to see if that makes a difference?
B-rock
I did not try disabling it because syncing worked fine for months while Symantec ran. Why would it suddenly be an issue
Perhaps a recent update to the software is causing the issue. How are you ejecting the iPod? Are you using one of the methods outlined here?

I have not installed new software. iTunes says sync has been completed, but the "do not disconnect" message continues to flash on the iPod. I tried selecting the eject tab in iTines as suggested, but receive this message. I'm also unable to eject from My computer.
The only way to disconnect is to shut the iPod off manually, then disconnect before it reboots.
I have not installed new software.
That's not what I said. I said updated your software, not installed it. Either way, double check to make that Norton is not set to scan the iPod. To test this out, temporarily disable it. You have nothing to lose by doing so.
Is the enable disk use option tick from under the iPod's Summary tab? If so, remove the tick mark and apply the changes. Then try to eject your iPod again.

I unsuccessfully tried syncing with Symantec Endpoint - and every other app - disabled.I'm unable to eject, for cing me to manually shut down iPod and have it reboot.
Did you make sure the Enable Disk Use option was turned off as well from under the iPod's Summary tab?
What other software do you have installed on your system?
B-rock
The Enab;e Disk Use option is off as is Symantec Endpoint. The OS is Windows 7. There's a long list of installed SW - any specific type of SW to look for?
So when your iPod is finished syncing do you click the eject button next to it under Devices in iTunes or do you simply unplug it?
B-rock
The eject button does not work. I get an error message that my iPod "cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application." That's why, if you see the discussion thread, I was asked to disable Symantec and check the Enable Disk use option.
Can you provide a list of what software is installed on your system?
So all Norton services are turned off? You may have closed the program, but there still may be services it has running.
Click Start and type in services.msc in the search box and hit Enter. This should bring up a window listing all of the services currently on your system and their status. Look for any and all Norton services and disable them for the time being. Then connect and try to eject your iPod again.
