On the iPad how do I keep mute off and rotation on at the same time?

The function that isn't being controlled via the side switch is controlled by the left-hand end of the taskbar instead : double-click the home button to open the taskbar and then slide that to the right, and it's the icon at the far left (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085)

You can use the option in general to Mute, and doble tap the home button and swipe to the right until you see the music controls. At the far left tap the circle with the arrow on it and you should see a lock appear in the center of the circle. This locks the orientation. Simply tap again to remove the orientation lock.

Hello, I am having the same problem. I want mute AND orientation lock OFF.

When I go to general settings, I have to choose whether I want to have the side control be orientation lock or mute. Whichever one I choose, it will automatically enable the other.

Ex:

I select orientation lock to disable orientation lock, and then mute is enabled.

I select mute to disable mute, and then orientation lock is enabled.

Is there a way to have both orientation lock and mute disabled at the same time?

It was like that before when I first got the iPad a few months ago.

Please advise.

Never mind, figured it out. There is a switch on the side, next to the volume control, that affects the orientation lock.
