Apple Event: May 7th at 7 am PT
Since updating to 5.1.1, my ipad 3 will no longer rotate.
Rotation is currently enabled, there is no lock showing. I have tired using the side switch for rotation, rebooting, and even done a complete restore.
The gyroscope seems to be working in apps that support it. I just cant get the screen to go horizontal in apps and on the home screen.
Any ideas?
iPad (3rd gen) Wi-Fi, iOS 5.1.1
Try powering off and on your iPad.
Thanks for your reply but done that loads of times and still doesnt work.
Try restting your iPad.
Press and hold both Home and Power until you see the Apple logo, ignoring the red slide to power off slider.
Try to Reset it by following this route
Settings>General>Reset(all the way down)>Reset all settings.
you will lose your network settings and alarms and such but it has worked for some having this issue. If it does not work you may very well have a broken rotation sensor.

It works in apps that support it but it doesn't work in apps?

Thanks for your help guys. I have tired resetting all settings and holding the home and power button down but it still wont work 😟.

What I meant was that the gyroscope seems to be working ok because I can still play games like labyrinth where you have to tilt the iPad. I just cant get the screen to go horizontal on the home screen or in apps that support rotation like Safari. Its always stuck in portrait mode.
right, which is why i think it might be a defective gyro. either way, bring it to an apple store and get a new one no questions asked, er other than you telling them why.🙂

That's fine! The sleep/wake button is the little button at the top.
