Photos not saving to camera roll

I've run into a situation where the photos taken by the camera app are not saving to the camera roll, however strangely, the photos are still visible through the review mode in the actual camera app, and also when plugged into pc they are visible in the photos folder? Additionally, they are still visible by location under the places tab in the photos app, which suggests they are definitely there. I can still remove them from the iPhone but still have the issue of not being able to edit or view actually on the iPhone. What should I do? Using 4s on 5.1.1.

Definitely seems to be a fault in 5.1.1., has anybody had this problem with previous updates?

I've been using 5.1.1 since release and have not had any issues. I would try

Follow basic troubleshooting found in your user Guide for your phone.

Reset, restore, Service.

I have found that it happens after trying to restore a previous backup, especially an iCloud backup

It seems to be a random occurrence as with most problems, many others appear to have it, have tried reset and restore twice, still not working.

@jlewsader It did happen after my previous restore, however all my restores were computer based. Now a restore will not clear the problem either.

This definitely seems like the right idea, although I cannot find the app that is mentioned in this article used to delete that folder.

Knowing Apple they probably saw that app as a threat and removed it.

Will look for alternative ways to delete this folder.

I did find that it was renamed to iExplorer (due to Apple) and the is also iFunbox or DiskAid

If u get to try before I post anything, let me know, PLEASE!!!

I also found the rename, however it is £2.99... any spare change anyone? I also looked for iFunbox and DiskAid, no results.

I just looked in my iPhone link on my computer for moving photos, instead of finding /100APPLE there is a different folder for me, 860OKMZO. Google suggests this is new for the 4S, but either way cannot delete it using my pc.

EDIT i'm stupid, didnt realise these were actual computer programs, found and will test now.

GOT IT! For now.. i downloaded the program iExplorer onto my computer, fired it up, navigated to DCIM and deleted both folders in there, 100APPLE and a weird one that was .misc. Problems sorted now, I presume this will also be the fix if it decides to happen again. Thanks for your suggestions! 🙂 Good luck also when you get home to do it!

Worked for me too!

Anyone else reading this...

Download iExplorer, iFunDisk, or DiskAid
find this folder and delete it:/private/var/mobile/Media/DCIM/100Apple
Reset device by holding power and home button until white Apple logo

got this problem too, downloaded both iexplore & diskaid but neither will allow me to delete this file, (file is numbered 102Apple in DCIM folder)

Any ideas what I'm doin wrong??

I'll have to give this a try. My wife has a new 4s (3 weeks old now) that has this problem randomly. Picture shows in the preview window of the camera, but isn't in the camera roll. Sometimes it appears for a couple of seconds in the preview window, then disappears from it. I'll report back on whether this was the problem/solution for me too after I give it a try.

Well, that folder doesn't exist. And I can't find the missing pics anywhere. The other sad part is that iExplorer works for maybe a minute then encounters an error and has to close. So this isn't the solution in my case.

I found the folder, deleted the two files there 100Apple and 101Apple but it didn't work. My pictures still arent saving to camera roll, this has happened since I upgraded to 5.1.1. which I deeply regret now as I used the camera alot. Any ideas before I through this wretched phone in the bin??
