How do I bypass my credit card on iTunes

My iTunes account has a ballance of 50 bucks but I cant buy anything on iTunes because it keeps asking me to update my billing info so I do and it tells me my request can not be processed please try again later so I click ok and then it tells me it can't connect to iTunes store how do I fix this? I don't want it to use my credit card.
