May 26, 2012 7:34 PM in response to Kanderson1358by Bob Timmons,Apple's instructions for this are here:

Although an AirPort Extreme is pictured in the example, the instructions for an AirPort Express would be exactly the same.

Dec 5, 2013 4:43 PM in response to Bob Timmonsby kdl6769,Bob -- I am trying to set up an Airport Extreme as a wireless extender for my main wireless router. It is plugged in and not connected to anything else. I cannot make these instructions work because when I go to the Airport Status menu to find my Airport Extreme I don't see it listed. Instead I see only WiFi (connected), "Thunderbolt bridge -- not connected," Bluetooth PAN (not connected) nd Ethernet (not connected). I also don't see my Airport Express, even though I know it is currently connected (and I see it in my Airport Utility). Any idea what Thunderbolt Bridge is, and how I can solve this? Thanks.

You confiure the Airport Express using the Airport Utility where you already see the device.
No need to go into the System Preferences where you see the Wi-Fi and Thunderbolt Bridge.
Your main wi-fi is already setup from what you are saying.
Set the Express up to "Extend" your existing Extreme network and follow the instructions in the link that Bob gave you above. Use the Airport Utility application in your Utilities folder.
