Difficulty extending a wireless network

I have three airport devices. A brand new Airport extreme, a first generation Airport extreme and a Airport Express "G".

My internet is shared by the newest Airport extreme and wirelesly extending the network is my other two devices. The older Airport extreme is fine and extends the network to my Sky box and my Playstation no problem. The Airport Express is older but connects just fine to the main Airprot Extreme. It shows up in Airport Utility 5.6 etc, I can stream music to it via Airplay so no issues there. However, it is not extending the network - The iMac cannot see it in the wireless drop down menu as a seperate base station to connect to and my iPhone and iPad cannot see it either. Any ideas much appreciated.

Your express can not extend a network. It can only do a WDS.

For true extention, you'd need an N type.
