Trying to get my mac off the grey screen and neither safe mode nor the OS X disc are working. The only thing that is working is CMD+S which gives me the error "mach_kernal" error screen
Is there any way to fix this?

Without an installer disc there's nothing you can do. What do you mean by "OS X discs are not working?"
