"Date and Time" freezes System Preferences - file to delete?

I have experienced the same problem. You can try deleting the /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist, but that may not help. Be sure you have no menubar items running such as MenuMeters, iClock, etc. You might also try booting from the Installer Disc and running Disk Utility to repair the hard drive and permissions. Then do a shutdown for about five minutes before restarting. Upon restart clear PRAM by pressing and holding down the OPTION-COMMAND-P-R keys immediately after the chime and continue to hold them until you hear the restart chime another four times, then release and allow normal startup.

Migrating from a PowerPC Mac can be problematic because of the possibility of getting third-party plug-ins, preference panes, menubar modifiers, etc. that can potentially cause problems.

I've had this problem before - I don't remeber what the solution was but if I am not mistaken it involved the connection to the network time server.

Try rebooting your mac either connect to the internet or completely offline and see if it will let you into the preference pane without it locking up.

I have found exactly the same thing:

My "Date & Time" preference pane freezes when I am connected to the internet and have the "set date & time automatically" box ticked.

Everything then works well when I disconnect from the internet.

Everything also works well when I re-conect to the internet but CLEAR the "set date & time automatically" tick box.

This must be an APPLE BUG!!!!

Just thought I would mention that I too have experienced the same problem. Date & Time Freezes but then opens up after a very long time. Following suggestions to uncheck the "automaticly set date and time" box worked well.

Has anyone got closer to finding out why this happens? Or if there is a fix as it would be handy to use this feature.

I have migrated over from a Power PC to Intel has anyone found this to be anything to do with the cause?

last night i experienced the exact same thing on my mbp. don't know why i didn't notice this before.

...is there any new info to this problem?

will try the unchecked box thing tonight - but there should be a reason for this problem.

Unfortunately I have no new info on this. Hope the unchecked box works for now. If I find anything out I will definately get back to you. I agree. Something is obviously not right?

no i didn't migrate - so the origin must be something else. my guess is that it has to do with internet access. because the same happens to me when i click in the system preferences on the .mac account (which i don't have) and then try to choose one of the tabs...
