apple mail emails disappear and reappear

I may have asked this before, but I'm asking again because I can't believe I am the only person with this problem.

Since I ugraded to lion 10.7.3, the messages in my apple-mail email inbox disappear and reappear periodically. They usually disappear for a couple of days and then reappear for as long as a week, then disappear again. I can't tell if there is a pattern. This "disappearance" could occur when I click "get mail", when I open a different folder, when I receive a new email, or if I do nothing at all. Sometimes clicking "rebuild" makes them reappear, sometimes not. While the inbox is empty, new messages can appear. If I try to rebuild, the new message might disappear also. I can find all the emails if I go through yahoo. com. They don't disappear. It's only when I try to access them through the Outlook icon on my dock that I have this problem. Who's problem is it? apple, yahoo, outlook, dsl extreme? I don't know who to ask for help?

My guess is Outlook, is there a reason you can't use Apple's Mail?

Thanks for your reply. I am trying to use apple. That's where I'm having the problem. I'll try to explore solution or explanation through Outlook.

Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.

(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)

Does Mail work better?

I found a fix elsewhere for Mail.app. I had to remove every sub-folder under INBOX (I moved them to a local folder) and then used the MAILBOX -> REBUILD command on INBOX. It worked, but now I don't have any of the sub-folders.

I am very disappointed with Apple. I should never have to do that. Tens of Billions of dollars in cash, just lying around, and they can't be bothered to make the most basic (and central) of applications work.

I do get the same behavour that you describe, but when using mail under Yosemite 10.10.1. I upgraded to 10.10.2 today, hoping this problem with mail would be fixed, but it is still there. I do not use sub-folders, so I cannot use the suggested fix.

Any idea anyone? 🙂

So far no fix or update from apple.

Mail is still not working properly and affecting my daily productivity.

People @Apple, please wake up. This is very basic stuff that needs to work!

I am having this problem- at any point my emails just vanish in my inbox (connected with IMAP). This problem has just started after using my mac for over 10 months. If I then send a mail to myself and click get new mail the emails then reappear. I did have quite a few messages in my mail box and thought it could be this so I moved them to a sub folder but that didnt work. Now all the messages I moved have not been properly downloaded and I cannot use search. I have tried disconnecting the account and adding it again, rebuilding but the problem persists.

If anyone had any ideas to help me I would be very grateful.
