Q: How do I get the red minus sign to come up to shut down an application?

Double click the Home button.  A bar will appear at the bottom of the screen with all apps that we're recently opened.  Press and hold the icon of an app on the bar until all the icons on the bar start to wiggle and the red minus signs appear.
