Q: New MacBook pro will not surf the net.

My roommates MacBook pro will not connect to the Internet. It says that it is via network preferences, it even has a green light and says connected, yet It can't browse via safari (Can't even send emails or use iTunes store). He's recently come back from home where he's been using his family's router fine so, i'm thinking it's a problem with the ip and that. My pc and iPad are working fine with the router. I've tried the simple fixes like turning it on and off and inputting ip manually, so any ideas are welcome. Thanks for any help in advance.

    Hi...

Make sure the software is up to date. Click the Apple menu icon top left in the screen. From the drop down menu click Software Update. If the software is up to date, open System Preferences > Network then click Advanced then select the Proxies tab.

If any of the boxes on the left are selected, deselect then click OK.

Quit then relaunch Safari to test.

That may help Safari but not iTunes or email, if the Mac has anti virus software installed, try disabling that.

And try a different DNS server. That will help all your connections. Apple suggests using OpenDNS and it's very easy to setup > Safari 5.0.1 or later: Slow or partial webpage loading, or webpage cannot be found

Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.

    Click +

Enter these addresses exactly as you see them here.

    208.67.222.222

    Click +

    208.67.220.220

    Then click OK.

If that didn't help, you can remove the addresses by selecting each one then clicking -  (minus)

Thanks for the reply but that wasn't the problem, rang up the support line in the end problem was a fixed ip, thought I had checked that, obviously not.
