May 28, 2012 11:23 AM in response to R.brazby Carolyn Samit,Hi...
Make sure the software is up to date. Click the Apple menu icon top left in the screen. From the drop down menu click Software Update. If the software is up to date, open System Preferences > Network then click Advanced then select the Proxies tab.
If any of the boxes on the left are selected, deselect then click OK.
Quit then relaunch Safari to test.
That may help Safari but not iTunes or email, if the Mac has anti virus software installed, try disabling that.
And try a different DNS server. That will help all your connections. Apple suggests using OpenDNS and it's very easy to setup > Safari 5.0.1 or later: Slow or partial webpage loading, or webpage cannot be found
Open System Preferences / Preferences then select the Network tab. Click the Advanced tab then click the DNS tab.
Click +
Enter these addresses exactly as you see them here.
208.67.222.222
Click +
208.67.220.220
Then click OK.
If that didn't help, you can remove the addresses by selecting each one then clicking - (minus)
This knowledge base article is for Mac OS X up to 10.6 but may help with Lion v10.7 as well > Solutions for connecting to the Internet, setting up a small network, and troubleshooting
