Q: My imac 10.5.8 has the eject icon in the top right corner, just showed up today. What and why is it there?

My imac 10.5.8 has the eject symbol in the top right corner, just started today and when I click on it, it shows my superdrive. Did not click on it,as I'm afraid it will eject it and then I'm screwed. Does anyone have an idea on why it showed up?

That icon is there to provide a quick method of ejecting a disk which is currently in the drive. If you don't want it there, command-click it and drag it out of the menu bar.
