The dock and menubar disappears

When Safari is active, the menubar and the dock disappears. I have chosen not to show/hide dock in system preferences, and whenever any other program than Safari is active, the dock and menubar stays put. My OS is 10.7 - P.S. I have not maximized the Safari-window.

What could cause this, and how do I get the dock and menubar to stay even when Safari is active?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.4), Safari 5.1.7

Does the dock reappear when you move the mouse to its location?

I have this same problem. Please Tell me how to fix it. I hit some command button by accident. It would be nice to know how to disable it. and enable it because in running snow leopard (skipping to mouton lion in fall) now but i got TRUE FULL SCREEN and I mean nothing but webpage on the screen. it looked really good! I hit the ESC button in a panic and now the full screen went away and now there's just the safari window with a hiding dock and menu bar. 😟

System: running 10.6.8 snow lepord

I noticed my Safari file menu had disappeared and and that when you move the mouse arrow up to top, the file menu appears. If you look over to far right on the file menu, you will see opposing arrows. If you click on them, you either get full screen (where the file menu is hidden) or you get a reduced screen with the full menu bar always showing. Once I learned this, it makes it easier to decide which I want to use.

What Mproudfit has said is correct. Just for clarification, if you are having the same problem as sraaoyen here, all that you need to do is right click on the Safari icon in the dock (once, of course, you hover over the dock area), then select 'Quit'. Upon reopening, your Safari problem should be totally solved 🙂

I'm having this problem, about 3 years later than the original post. I'm running OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 and recently the menu bar and dock have disappeared from Safari (only Safari - when in Word for example its all there). If I hover over the menu bar it shows up but its still annoying not to see time, battery charge etc. I can't see the dock at all. I've tried all the things mentioned in this and other sites but to no avail. I can't see any 2 arrow box thingy on the menu bar to unzoom, I've quit Safari and re-opened multiple times, if I use escape it just reduces the size of the whole screen, if I go view and zoom in and out it just reduces the size of the whole screen, I can't simply resize the screen because now I don't seem to be able to get to the edges of the screen and can't see the resize option. Only thing I can think of that may have caused it to start is that I used Command/ scroll to increase font size.

Is anyone else having this problem and can anyone talk me through things to try?

den.thed ~ I became a registered user so that I could properly thank you. Your answer on this support site just resolved a perplexing issue with my beloved late 2006 17" MBP. The screen changed after an unfortunate/accidental keyboard/mouse sequence….but you saved the day! Many thanks to you for supporting your fellow Apple/Mac community members. All the best to you, E
