Q: frequent traveler to israel- will verizon ipad work?  or must I buy at&t?

I actually just purchased an ipad last week, and it's on its way.  It's a verizon version and I just heard that at&t works with gsm, which is what they use in israel.  Now I'm worried I may have made a mistake.
