lcd wont light up

My ipod nano 5th generation screen wont light up. For a day or two I could still see it if I held it to the light just right, but now its completely black. It still plays music but if I accidently get off the music I wont be able to see to get back on. What could this be and how do I fix it? I don't want to get a new ipod, I want to fix it. Any ideas?
