Merging all contacts to iCloud.

I feel like this should be a very simple task. I simply want all of my contacts (i.e. yahoo, google) to be merged and saved into iCloud. How can I do this?

iPhone 4S, iOS 5.1.1

Yes I do want that, but I also would like to be able to access my contacts from in yahoo from another computer, if I am not at home, or something. I guess what I am trying to do is save it into both so its on my computer, phone and into yahoo.

In my address book I have all contacts, on my mac, icloud, yahoo, and last import, which i dont know why I need all of those categories. Then when I look at all contacts, people have their names on there twice or even 3 times. I understand how to unify contacts, but I dont need all this duplicate information. The same thing happens when i pull up face time, mulitiple duplicates. And as far as syncing contacts with itunes, last time I did that, I ended up losing a lot of contacts on my phone.

Although your iPhone can unify your contacts from multiple sources (iCloud, Yahoo, Exchange) it sounds like you want everything in iCloud so that your Mac can access them, correct?

You can copy your Yahoo and GMail contacts over to iCloud either by exporting your contacts as a .csv file (using a computer, not your iPhone unless you have a 3rd party contact backup app) and then import the .csv file into iCloud using your computer, or I think if you have iCloud enabled (and Contact sync turned on) you can simply sync your contacts to your iPhone using iTunes, which will then load them into iCloud.

well that is the goal. however, in my address book on my mac none of my yahoo contacts even appear and when I try to send an email none of my yahoo or google contacts are available. the only contacts that are available are the ones that are stored in icloud. I'm fine with condensing to one source, but not if I cannot even access them.

@GonçaloM same here. Surely it can't be this hard. iCloud web interface seems only to allow single vcd file imports.

You must be doing something wrong. I just re-tested it and was able to (a) export a group of contacts from my GMail and Yahoo accounts as two separate .vcf files, (b) import both of these .vcf files to bring in all these contacts to iCloud.

Perhaps the problem is that you're creating individual files for each of your contacts, you should export your contacts as a group into one .vcf file, then import that into iCloud.

You're quite right I have no problem exporting the VCF file from gmail.

I was really looking for a single step from outlook/exchange to iCloud.

What worked was:

Export to .csv from Outlook

Import to gmail

Export to .vcf from gmail

Email this vcf file as an attachment to an account synched with

my iPhone.

What would be nice is to be able to import a vcf file to iCloud.

I might be wrong but I think you can only import individual vcd files.

Thanks for setting me straight: my problem solved ;)

Glad you got it sorted out, but you can import a .vcf file directly into iCloud, that's exactly what I did above and each .vcf file contained dozens of contacts, not a single contact per file.

I don't know if you got this sorted out or not yet, but I just did this on my new MacBook. In iCloud, the contacts should automatically be synced with your iCloud e-mail address. If you go to export your Gmail contacts and select vCard Format, they will automatically be in your Apple Address Book. From there, mine were automatically on my iCloud contacts as well. If this doesn't happen automatically, try unchecking the "Contacts" box in the iCloud menu, then click "Keep Contacts" and then re-check it to get them synced up.

Hope this helped if it wasn't already solved!

This is an utterly worthless thread. How does one merge exchange contacts with iCloud. The answer of Apple doesnt support it go find another solution seems ridiculous. What happened to standards based data. Its all VCDs anyway......this is why I cant stand Apple. 95% of the business world uses Exchange.....can we all move along to a unified future?

This is an issue a lot of users have because they want iCloud to do something it does not do. If you have duplicates or triplicates it is because you have 3 diferrent contacts lists being controlled by 3 different systems. iCloud will add your Yahoo or Gmail or Exchange to iCloud (by copying it into the iCloud server), but iCloud will not do anything to your other contact lists (Gmail, Yahoo, or Exchange) as these are entirely seperate.

I suggest people just pick one and use it. Consolidate all of you contacts and import them into which ever one you choose. In the case of iCloud you can view it on any computer by going to iCloud.com, this is where you can view your master record of contacts. If they are in iCloud.com they should be able to go to any device that is setup properly. There is also an iClud control panel for Windows.

@wayne.loveless you need to remember that Apple things are usually targeted at individual users, not corporate standars. Yes Exchange is a business standard but things like iCloud, being free, are not aimed at company usage they are made to handle an individual's needs in respect.
