I use my mom's old iPhone that's synched with her computer. Can I sync it to my new MacBook?

I have a bit of a complex question here that requires some explaining. My mom recently got the iPhone 4S, and now I use her old iPhone 4. The phone I'm using had been previously synched to her computer/iTunes account/etc. and still has all her apps/music on it. I just got a MacBook Pro for my birthday and created my own iTunes account. Is there a way that I can sync this previously synched iPhone to my new Mac/iTunes account WITHOUT losing all my contacts/the apps that are currently on it? I can't really buy anything with my iTunes account and don't want to have an empty iPhone. Thanks!

But if you have bought a new computer and will be using it to sync your iPhone with regularly, then you may want to move your iTunes library, your purchases and contacts/notes/bookmarks/calenders to your new computer.

How to move your music to a new computer:

Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external H.D.

Transferring purchases from your iOS device to a computer.

Copy/Export your contacts/notes/calenders from the compatible addressbook from your old computer.
