Microsoft Silverlight keeps trying to update on my computer and is really slowing it down. How do I stop these pop up boxes for automatic updates?

Do you actually need it? Not many websites have Silverlight content, Netflix being perhaps the most notable exception. The best way to stop the updates would be to get rid of it.
