Referenced images, I don't have that many, 1000

I set up a Vault on an external USB disk connected to my Airport Extreme. When updating the vault I got this message:

"The 1000 images imported by reference are not included in this vault and should be backed up separately."

When I look for Referenced images, I have only 14. That is what I expected to find. Anyone know how it could be 1,000? I do use Photo Stream, is the number 1,000 a coincidence since that is the number of continuous images in Photo Stream? I know that the Photo Stream images are in aperture as originals and not referenced. I do move them from the monthly Project created to a different event.

Thanks.

Really Interesting: I have 3466 referenced images in my Test Aperture Library, and when updating the vault, I get the Message: "The 14 images imported by reference are not included in this vault and should be backed up separately." And 14 images are in my current Photo Stream, not yet imported. Coincidence?

The counts will differ, if you repeat the update immediately. After editing one single (managed) image and updating the vault again I got no more warning message with respect to the referenced images, only a notice that "one managed image" will be included.

So what I suspect is the following: The warning message is misleading. It does not show the total number of "managed" or "referenced" to be included or not, but a count of the changed items and newly imported items in each category that will be backed up or not.

But why 1000 in your case? Did you switch from "referenced" to "managed" recently? Or do you have a filter set, that excludes some referenced images when you try to count your referenced images?

Léonie, thanks for this input. It took me until now to get back to it. But, sure enough I simply repeated the update now and the referenced information matches what I believe to be true at 14 images. I had experimented with referenced images over a year ago but much preferred the managed solution in Aperture and never had this come up before. This combined with the number being 1,000 seemed like it was tied to the Photo Stream feature.

So yes, the warning message was misleading.

Thanks, Bob
