Replacement battery for Macbook Pro 5,3 (Mid 2009)

Hello everyone,

I've been trying to find a replacement battery (ideally an official battery from Apple) for my Macbook Pro 5,3 Mid 2009. Ridiculously, Apple doesn't have compatability information on their battery pages. I have a hunch that this is the one I need, but I can't find any information to confirm that, and I don't want to plunk down $129 for something I can't use.

Can anyone help me out? It would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Steve

I have the 5,3 mid-2009 Unibody Macbook Pro as well. That's not the battery you would want to get. That's for MBP of the same year that had half a bottom panel removable, and the battery was separate, removable, and covered in aluminum to look like the rest of the bottom panel.

The one needed for the mid-2009 Unibody 5,3 is this (http://www.ifixit.com/MacBook-Parts/MacBook-Pro-15-Inch-Unibody-Mid-2009-2010-Ba ttery/IF161-057#compatibilityList) one.

Hope that helps.

I just replaced the battery on my MBP 15" (2.8GHz) which I purchased on Amazon from Morewer. Used the iFixit manual to do the straightforward replacement. Although you're supposed to use a pentalobe (five-wing) screwdriver, a small flat head will work. Battery charged up fine (conditioned it by fully charging and then running down), but now my magsafe charger doesn't turn amber anymore (stays green and the battery menu says "Not charging"). When I leave the machine plugged in, it charges the battery anyway. Wish I know how to get the charger to indicate it is actually charging. Anyone have any ideas? Could there be something wrong with the battery?
